Our October club meeting at Elijah's in Clairemont gets underway 30 minutes earlier than usual this Wednesday, Oct. 18, as we come to order at 6:30 p.m. to have plenty of time to hear from the three Democratic candidates vying to replace incumbent GOP Congressman Darrell Issa: Doug Applegate, Mike Levin and Paul Kerr.

As always, our social will begin at 6 p.m., but this month it will only last 30 minutes before we come to order at 6:30. The earlier start time is to make additional time available for club business, including a vote on proposed club bylaws changes, which can be viewed here.

The club will also get an update from Assemblymember Todd Gloria (AD-78) on business in Sacramento, and we'll hear from Stefanie Sekich-Quinn of the Surfrider Foundation on the on-again fight to preserve Trestles and San Onofre State Beach, now thrown into jeopardy, in part, by Congressman Darrell Issa despite the settlement reached last year between the Save San Onofre Coalition (SSOC) and the Orange County Transportation Corridor Agencies (TCA).

We'll then move on to our 49th Congressional District Forum with the candidates seeking to unseat Representative Darrell Issa: Doug Applegate, Mike Levin and Paul Kerr.

As was the case with our D-4 Board of Supervisors forum, all questions must be submitted in writing, and only club members in good standing will be permitted to submit questions. In addition to opening and closing remarks, candidates will be obliged to answer the same question in an order to be determined by the moderator.
