Coast to Cactus with the Canyoneers

Ever since San Diego County Democrats for Environmental Action came together in 2014, we've been looking for an opportunity to feature Diana Lindsay, one of the area's most renowned authorities on San Diego County outdoors, and in particular, on Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.

The co-author of the landmark book The Anza-Borrego Desert
Region: A Guide to the State Park, Diana is the founder and president of Sunbelt Publications, and is one of the co-editors of Sunbelt Pubications' most recent book about our incredible outdoors.

Written by the San Diego Natural History Museum Canyoneers, who lead informative, interpretive hikes throughout the county, Coast to Cactus: The Canyoneer Trail Guide to San Diego Outdoors covers over 250 area hikes where San Diego County's rich biodiveristy is on dull display. If conservation and preservation are part of your environmental tenets, this is something you'll want to check out – plus the book's forward was written by club member Davin Widgerow.

CCA Update

We also heard from club member and award winner Nicole Capretz of the Climate Action Campaign, who gave an update on the state of community choice aggregation (CCA) in climate action plans around the county, including the city of San Diego.

CCA is a policy that enables local governments to find alternative, and often, cleaner energy options while maintaining their community's existing electrical grid, and introduce competition into energy markets that don't necessarily have competing entities. CCA is a core component of climate action plans – but companies that enjoy monopolies seldom want to give them up.

Thanks also to Olga Cortes from San Diego 350 for an update on the People's Climate Mobilization on April 29.
