Big thanks to everyone who came out to the inaugural meeting of San Diego County Democrats for Environmental Action and got us off to a great start.

We're in the beginning processes of putting a political committee together, and we began an ongoing dialogue about environmental issues important to the region - and how Democratic candidates and lawmakers can actively use those issues in campaign positioning and crafting legislation.

An especially big thank you to our guests Council President Todd Gloria and founding club member Port Commissioner Rafael Castellanos, who both gave informative and enlightening presentations about their work to make San Diego greener. We couldn't have asked for two more engaging, enthusiastic speakers to kick off our club who were more generous with their time. Great questions and discussion.

Thanks also to San Diego Unified School Board President Kevin Beiser for stopping by, and for his environmental contributions with Meatless Mondays and demonstrating the value of solar to reduce energy costs.

More to come on this meeting and our next meeting on Oct. 29.
