Wednesday, April 29 at the La Jolla Village Square Community Room
With the California Democratic Party convention coming up the weekend of May 15-17 in Anaheim, we thought April would be a good time to take a break from our focus on specific environmental issues, and instead focus on party and convention mechanics – and how to best advance environmental issues at the state level in 2015, 2016, and beyond.
With a focus on the convention, we couldn't have done better than welcoming club member and outgoing California Democratic Party Region 20 director Steve Rivera as our featured speaker for our April meeting.
Steve's institutional knowledge of the state party, along with his wealth of convention experience made for a fun, illuminating presentation, and we're confident Steve will be a runaway success as he moves forward with his next position as Affirmative Action Co-Chair of the California Democratic Party.
Thanks also to San Diego City Attorney candidate Mara Elliott and San Diego City Council District 9 candidate Georgette Gomez for joining us as well.
Our next club meeting is coming up the last week of May at an East County location to be determined, with club member Renee Owens. An adjunct professor at Imperial Valley College and a conservation biologist at Owens Wildlife Biology, Renee will give an in-depth presentation about a variety of East County conservation and environmental matters, and what needs to be done to help an area of the county often overlooked by San Diego-area lawmakers, and left "twisting in the wind" by environmentally-hostile legislators and plagued by destructive forms of "recreation."
Save time for May 27th or 28th. We'll confirm the date and location shortly.
