San Diego County Democrats for Environmental Action enjoyed a three-mile hike at Mission Trails Regional Park on Saturday, March 13. The outing was a big success a lot of fun. Good to see the Enviro. Dems out and about on the trail enjoying our outdoors.
Featuring views of the Fortuna Peaks and the Cowles Mountain massif, the hike was led by club members and naturalists Cara Furio and Renée Owens, and organized by the Programs and Outreach Committee led by club vice president Brian Elliott.

We began the hike at the Tierrasanta Entrance trailhead, also known as the West Fortuna Staging Area, at the end of Clairemont Mesa Blvd. in Tierrasanta.
Due to poison oak and the beginning of tick season, attendees were advised to dress in appropriate outdoor hiking attire. As with all hikes in notoriously dry Southern California, water was a must, and sunscreen and hats were strongly recommended. All attendees were also asked to sign a waiver before the hike got underway.

On the trail Cara and Renée stopped to explain flora and fauna features, and we chatted about our upcoming March club meeting, Earth Day weekend plans, and how attendees and club members can participate in more San Diego County Democrats for Environmental Action efforts – including the Barbara Bry for City Council (D-1) reception which was later that day in Bird Rock.
We also solicited volunteer help for candidate walks, including a canvass the following weekend in support of Chris Ward for City Council (D-3), and manning the club's booth at this year's Earth Fair at Balboa Park.
The club is angling to do another hike in April before inland destinations become too warm to comfortably hike, so check back for more information – or sign up for the club's e-mail list.
