Committed to California's Environmental and Electoral Integrity
Not only is Secretary Padilla the state official who called out President Trump when he baselessly accused California of "rigged" elections, but as a state senator from 2006 to 2015 representing the San Fernando Valley in District 20, Padilla was one of the co-authors of SB 270 – the state's ban on single-use, disposable plastic bags, originally signed into law in 2014.
Padilla has also been a proponent of renewable energy, and led efforts to fund the South Coast Air Quality Management District's clean fuels program with SB 1028, and wrote SB 17, i.e. the Smart Grid law, which requires more efficient deployment of our state's energy to reduce emissions and dependency on power plants.

And at a moment when other states are making it more difficult for their citizens to vote, especially with the neutering of the 1965 Voting Rights Act by the U.S. Supreme Court, Secretary Padilla has overseen a record high registration of over 18.2 million voters in California since taking office as our state's chief elections officer.
