Fred Rogers
Vice President – V.P. for Political Action A technical writer with years of experience writing and editing engineering-specific documentation for electronic, computer and software systems, Fred is a long-time activist within the San Diego County Democratic Party and San Diego Sierra Club, with a deep institutional knowledge of both organizations. Utilizing his background in the development and analysis of process management in the use of documentation and data sets, Fred has worked as a consultant on dozens of area races, and has proven invaluable in expanding the party's reach in San Diego County. He chairs the club's political committee.

Brian Elliott
Vice President – V.P. for Policy Brian's start in San Diego Democratic politics came while working for the California Democratic Party as the environmental organizer on Congressman Scott Peters' 2014 re-election effort. He quickly went on to utilize his environmental expertise to advocate for renewable energy as a campaign organizer for the Climate Action Campaign, and now serves in San Diego City Councilmember Chris Ward's office. Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Brian spent several years in Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia before returning west to enjoy the region's beaches, mountains, trails and craft breweries.

Brett Fisher
Treasurer A marketing and communications management professional, Brett developed her fundraising, market share growth and business development aptitude working with health care and pharmacy services, and has a wealth of experience working with public entities, non-profit organizations and political candidates. Along with her work for Congressman Scott Peters and former supervisor Dave Roberts, Brett has worked with the San Diego Film Festival and the San Diego County Democratic Party.

Cara Furio
Club Secretary A San Diego resident for over 30 years, Cara originally hails from Vermont, where she first developed her love for the outdoors hiking in the Green Mountains. Cara currently works as a postpartum doula, and serves as a volunteer Canyoneer with the San Diego Natural History Museum, as well as a trail guide at Mission Trails Regional Park. A member of the San Diego Mycological Society, Cara is an active gardener and environmental advocate. The mother of two daughters, Cara served on the board of the Serra High School Foundation, and enjoys spending time with her three grandchildren.

Tommy Hough
Ex-Officio (Immediate Past President) Former 91X and FM 94/9 morning host Tommy Hough has been active in conservation and wilderness issues since 2001, from his advocacy for California State Parks to serving as the host of the Treehuggers International radio show, to leading communications efforts for the San Diego County Surfrider chapter and Oregon Wild. Now a candidate for San Diego City Council District 6 (D-6), Tommy was a 2017 FEAT Award winner by the San Diego County chapter of the Sierra Club.

Lori Kern
Founding Member With a background in journalism and a lengthy tenure in graphic design, Lori serves as communications director for United Food and Commercial Workers Local 135 (UFCW 135), and is also known to area voters from her run for Helix Water Board in 2012. A long-time Teamster and board member with the La Mesa-Foothills Democratic Club, Lori also handled marketing for the California Center for Sustainable Energy and maintained finances for the San Diego Association of Governments. |
Kathleen Connell
Founding Member A public policy, sustainability and green start-up educator and expert, Kathleen is a strategic and organizational innovator, and has worked extensively within the private sector, as well as with NASA, the White House, Congress, and with the governors and lieutenant governors of 45 states. A steering committee member with the San Diego Sierra Club's Run With the Sun program, Kathleen served as an alternate in the 77th Assembly District on the San Diego Democratic Party Central Committee, and her honors include the NASA Public Service Medal and an honorary rank of colonel in the U.S. Army.
